Runners line up for a La Vega
The trails of La Vega Estate provided the setting for a memorable morning of running, jogging and walking on Sunday, as participants embraced the opportunity to combine fitness, nature and community at the La Vega Estate 8K 2026.
With the promise of scenic surroundings and a course that offered something beyond the traditional road race experience, runners took to the trails bright and early at 6:30 am., with finishers rewarded with magnificent medals and the added incentive of cash prizes for the leading male and female competitors.
Along the route, hydration and motivation stations kept participants refreshed and encouraged, while race-course photography captured the moments and memories of the morning.
The event also featured age-group prizes, product sampling and giveaways, adding to an atmosphere designed to make the race about more than simply reaching the finish line.

A route for the ages
The race committee went above and beyond to chart a course that would leave both the runners and nature lovers well satisfied, as the race wound its way through the Estate, heading in a westerly direction at first before diverting to the north, then south, before the arriving at the half-way and coming back to the start the way they came.

Over the winding path
Darius Harding emerged from a closely fought men’s race, crossing the line in 27 minutes, 11.1 seconds, to take victory.
Harding was pushed all the way by Isaiah Alder, who finished just 4.8 seconds behind in 27:15.9, while William Mootoo completed the podium in 29:23.9.
The narrow margin between the leading pair ensured a competitive battle at the front, with Harding ultimately holding his nerve to claim the top spot.
The women’s race saw Neferta Khafra lead the way in 39:25.2, finishing just 9.4 seconds ahead of Heqpera Khafra, who clocked 39:34.6 for second.
Leela Modeste rounded out the women’s podium in 40:46.5, as the trio produced a strong showing over the scenic La Vega course.

August is winding down
With August entering its final week, the local running calendar still has plenty of activity on the horizon.
The PTSC Sports Club’s Wellness Express 5K 2026 is set to take place in Arima on Sunday, while the Sach and Steel 5K Pop-Up is currently in planning for August 27.
For runners, walkers and fitness enthusiasts, the month may be winding down — but the road ahead remains busy.
