Run in the afternoon sun
Our series of Community Pop-Ups continued its journey across Trinidad on July 23, bringing another afternoon of fitness and friendly competition to the Aranguez Savannah.
With August shaping up to be one of Bafasports’ busiest months of the year, the midweek Community 5K Pop-Up offered runners another opportunity to take on a pressure-free late afternoon run while tackling just over three laps around one of East Trinidad’s most popular running spots.

On the running path…
On site there was a mix of seasoned competitors and recreational runners, with Luke Williams leading the Community Men’s division in 21 minutes and 37 seconds, ahead of Fardeen Ali (23:53.6) and Anthony Blanche (25:51.2).
In the Community Women’s race, Asha Sanmoogan crossed the line first in 32:46.5, followed by Kamini Bhagaloo (35:18.5) and Laurel Jackson (35:34.1).
Renoki Abbott topped the Elite category with a winning time of 20:11.5.
Particularly impressive were the performances from some of the event’s veteran athletes, as 60-year-old Ali, 51-year-old Sanmoogan and 49-year-old Bhagaloo all secured podium finishes in their respective divisions.
Beyond the race itself, participants were also able to expand their medal collections after crossing the finish line, earning exclusive Community Pop-Up rewards including the Carnival 5K, Sancouche 5K and Starbucks 5K medals.

Next on the horizon
The momentum continues into August as the Caribbean Million Mile Challenge remains in full swing, joined by virtual events such as Sancouche and Sach and Steel.
On the road, runners can also look forward to the TTPS Coup Remembrance 6K and the Mayaro Coconut Run as another packed month of our events gets underway.
