Waldron, Kerr lead the way at Palo Seco Credit Union 5K

Down in Palo Seco…

The weekend road-running action continued on Sunday as our Palo Seco Credit Union 5K 2026 brought runners, joggers and walkers together for a morning of fitness, community and camaraderie in the south-western community.

With the race getting underway at 6:30am, participants of all ages and abilities were welcomed to take on the 5K route, with the event providing an opportunity for seasoned runners and recreational participants alike to share the road.

Along the course, hydration and motivation stations helped keep participants moving, while race-course photography captured moments from the morning.

Product sampling and giveaways added to the experience, while the competitive element was catered for with cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers and awards for various age groups.

For those who made it to the finish line, there was also a commemorative 2026 finisher’s medal to mark the occasion.

Ultimately, the Palo Seco Credit Union 5K combined the competitive side of road running with the community spirit of the event, giving participants another reason to lace up and get active in the 868.

The Route

The race started along the San Fernando-Siparia-Erin Road before taking participants onto Petrotrin Field Road at the 0.75-mile mark. From there, runners turned onto Oilfield Road, navigating a series of turns before reaching the turnaround point at 1.63 miles.

The route then retraced its path along Oilfield Road before runners made a sharp right back onto the San Fernando-Siparia-Erin Road at 2.53 miles, carrying them toward the finish line.

Waldron and Kerr Take Honours

Tafari Waldron continued his strong form on the road, claiming the men’s title in 15 minutes, 49.7 seconds. Darius Harding followed in second in 16:14.2, finishing 24.5 seconds behind Waldron, while Donnell Francis completed the podium in 16:29.0, a further 14.8 seconds adrift.

In the women’s race, Nyla Kerr secured a comfortable victory in 19:20.5, finishing more than two minutes clear of the field. Alexia John took second in 21:22.5, while Kershel McIntyre was third in 21:25.8, just 3.3 seconds behind John.

Don’t Forget the Midnight Marathon in Tobago…

October is in full swing, which means that the Trinidad and Tobago Midnight 10k Magdalena 2026 is almost here. Look out for more details here as we near the October 25, run off over in Tobago.

Before the final midnight race for the year though, runners can warm up with the Van Sertima Elite 5K 2026 on Saturday, and the Million Mile Campaign is still ongoing, which promises more opportunities to lace up and get out on the roads in the 868.
