From Avenue Nights to Coastal Lights: Midnight Half Hits Chaguaramas

On March 8 we flooded the Avenue, now it’s destination Chaguaramas!

The Midnight Runner Series is back, and we’re upping the ante to ring in Easter Monday down in the west with The Midnight Half Marathon.

The series started in January with the NCC Carnival 5K and 1K, which already seems to be a distant memory, then kicked up a notch after the beads, feathers, and parades in February, to the Midnight 10K Ariapita, which doubled the distance.

Now the distance is doubling again for the Half, as runners will be coming out for a 13.1-mile jaunt down the stretch in Chaguaramas, or 21 kilometres for those of you who are metric-minded.

Taking the lead. Tafari Waldron, left, along with Darius Harding, second left, Nicholas Romany second from right, and Donnell Francis set the pace near Jerningham Avenue on Queen’s Park East on Sunday 8 March for the T&T Midnight 10K Ariapita. Romany took top honours and will be looking forward to more for this weekend’s Midnight Half Marathon.  Image: Bafasports Media

Where will we be running?

Sometimes a road race is only as good as its location, and with the smell of the ocean salt, as well as the famous landmarks along the way, the race route is as scenic as a running aficionado could ever hope for.

The starter’s horn near the Chaguaramas Military Museum will get the action underway as the runners head westward past Hart’s Cut, to the end of the line near the Military Base, before swinging back east which will take them past Chagville Beach, and eventually the board walk, before making a u-turn back to toward the start.

Glow-in-the-dark medals and other goodies

And of course, you know we have to do it big.

The Midnight Half Marathon will be no different, as hydration stations are on tap, prizes to be won, race-course photography, glow-in-the-dark medals, and pan, calypso, and soca waiting at the finish line.

Part of the proceeds will go to the Rainbow Rescue.

Vibes by de Square! Members of the Subway team spared at no expense to keep runners motivated on the Abercromby Street during the Midnight 10K Ariapita on March 8. Expect more where that came from this weeked with the Midnight Runner Half Marathon in Chaguaramas. Image: Bafasports Media.

What about the prelude?: Oasis Inaugural 7K

Runners who can’t wait until Sunday to lace up will get their fix on Saturday with the Oasis Inaugural 7K Run/Walk, which isn’t just about fitness, but a fundraiser towards the book launch for Simeon Adewale’s Determined not to Fail where the proceeds will be donated to schools in T&T and Nigeria, and to support youth and women empowerment programmes.

Adewale’s work, a memoir that details his journey from From a small village in Nigeria to completing 77 races in 12 months while serving as a diplomat – a story that anyone can achieve extraordinary success.

The route is more straightforward, particularly for those used to their Sunday afternoon Savannah run – two laps around the QPS and then to the after-race meet up.

With the start and finish at TGI Friday’s, and age-group prizes in store, runners can look forward to another marquee event from our admin team and racing coordinators, which promises to be an inspiring event dedicated to chasing dreams and making a difference in our communities.

Look out for more this month!

This weekend is just the start of course. On Saturday 11, will be the eagerly-awaited KFC Chicken Run 1K and 5K to be hosted at the QPS, and the hype for that has been building since the start of March including a competition for the “best dressed Colonel” which was heavily endorsed on Instagram by the one and only Gervail Sean Lemo.

Stay in the loop for more fun times ahead, as well as the scoop on our latest races!

From the Savannah to the Avenue. Runners get the ball rolling during the Midnight 10K Ariapita, which started at the QPS, found its way to Ariapita Avenue, before swinging back to the Grand Stand on March 8. The Midnight Runner series is in full swing, with the Half Marathon next up on the menu on Easter Monday morning. Image: Bafasports Media
