IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On Sunday, June 8, 2025, the Queen’s Park Savannah was buzzing with energy as Bafasports hosted the Syrian Lebanese Women’s Association 7.5K in celebration of the SLWA’s 75th anniversary. This special savannah two-lap race brought together runners, walkers and supporters to honour a legacy of service and community. Participants were treated to an energetic, well-supported course complete with hydration and motivation stations, product sampling and giveaways. All finishers received a magnificent 75th anniversary medal, while the first 100 registrants walked away with free dry-fit t-shirts.

The event rewarded excellence and team spirit, offering cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers, age group awards and hampers for the largest teams. In the men’s category, Isaiah Alder took first place with a time of 29:38, followed closely by Tafari Waldron at 29:43 and Narvin “Trinilandman” Beharry at 29:52. In the women’s category, Alexia John led the pack with a time of 30:46, followed by April Francis at 33:08 and Zara Suite-Stewart at 34:15.

Genevierve Hadeed, President of the SLWA had the following to say: “This walk/run is more than just an event!  It is a symbol of how far we’ve come and the strength we carry forward.  Every step today honours the SLWA’s legacy of sisterhood, community spirit and charitable service to the people of Trinidad & Tobago.”

The success of the event was made possible thanks to an impressive lineup of sponsors and partners, including Iceland Premium Ice, Pizza Boys, Blue Waters, Donut Boys, Dwelling Home, Gatorade, Miguel Moses, Hadco Group, Carib Brewery, Trotters, Panini Café, Creamery Novelties, Maria’s Bakery, Nuts About Candy, Sticky Bones, Mr. Toppers, Body Beat, Parfois and Nu & Roe.

Speaking after the event, Bafasports CEO Nigel Bellamy said, “It’s a tremendous honour to partner with the SLWA on such a milestone event. This race wasn’t just about finishing times,  it was about celebrating legacy, unity and giving back. We saw elite runners, first-timers, families and corporate teams all coming together. That’s the true spirit of what we do at Bafasports.”
