Four Races, Two Islands, One Busy Weekend for Runners

The Midnight 10K Ariapita came and went faster than we expected, but now let’s run back into the daylight races to round up the rest of March.

We can barely contain our excitement for what’s in store this weekend, and a slew of races are on the menu in not just the 868, but up north in Antigua as well. Our schedule looks gloriously busy, as we have four races on Saturday and Sunday.

Set your alarms early, because on Saturday, we have the SAWA Loop 5K Road Race as well as the Bafasports ANU Beach Mile 2026, starting at 6am and 8am in T&T and Antigua respectively.

While on Sunday, the UWI FIC 5K Antigua will run off while back here in Marabella, the Deanflow Remembrance 5K gets going at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium. Both races also roll out at 6.30am.

Time for a beach run! Participants had a blast at last year’s Mayaro Coconut Beach Run, and there’s more sand and surf action on the cards this weekend with the ANU Beach Mile over in Antigua. Image: Bafasports Media

Bafa back on the beach vibes

Last year’s Mayaro Coconut Run was quite the sensation to say the least, and now we’re bringing that sand and surf energy to the rest of the region as the carousel lands in Antigua on Saturday morning.

The beach run isn’t as complex as some of the other courses on tap this weekend as it’s a straight beeline in the sands of Jolly Beach up to just past Palm Beach Drive, before turning around to finish back where the race started.

Run away from crime, one stride at a time!

Back in the 868, that’s the message behind the SAWA Loop 5K Road Race, which is presented by Kneads Function in collaboration with San Juan Youths, in an effort to promote positive change in the community.

And the bells and whistles are what you’d expect from us including cash prizes, stunning finisher medals for each participant, professional race photography, hydration stations, as well as age-group prizes for top performers.

The route starts at Real Street before swinging up the Saddle Road stretch, turning around just before Riverside Park, and cutting back down on the Santa Cruz Old Road all the way back to the start at Real Street – definitely a run for those with an affinity for a more technical challenge.

Inspiring through love of sport and community

The legacy of popular runner Bhagwandeen “Deanflow” Frankie lives on in the Deanflow Remembrance 5K bright and early Sunday morning in Marabella.

The 62-year-old was tragically struck by an oncoming car while running at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, and was remembered for his love for sport and community.

The race will be in aid to promote safer roads for runners, and to celebrate Deanflows’s unwavering passion for running.

The route heads down Park Lane before cutting right to Kenneth Drive, following onto Gopaul Circular Drive before swinging back up Park Lane and turning right onto Tagore Avenue, Bailey, Union Park Private, before finishing the course on the Manny Ramjohn running track.

In loving memory of. Bhagwadeen “Deanflow” Frankie was a familiar face for years on the road until he left us too soon. In remembrance of his legacy, and in aid of spreading awareness for safer roads for runners, the Deanflow Remembrance 5K runs off on Sunday morning in Marabella. Image: Bafasports Media

And back in Antigua for more fun

The fourth race on the roster will be the UWI FIC 5K Antigua, which will keep the action steady in other parts of the region.

According to our admin staff at Bafasports, the UWI FIC 5K Antigua stands as a prestigious race that highlights the importance of wellness, discipline, and community spirit. One that promises an inspiring and energetic experience for all participants.

Don’t forget: The T&T Midnight Half Marathon

Inspiring and energetic is what we do, and the next big run on the cards will be on April 5 in Chaguaramas, with the T&T Midnight Half Marathon resuming the Midnight Runner Series.

But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here, before that of course will be the Oasis Inaugural 7K at the Queen’s Park Savannah opposite TGI Friday’s which promises to be the ideal precursor to the after-dark run in early April.

We can’t wait to see you at the starter’s gantry!

Early, early, Sunday mawnin’! A runner soaks in a glorious sunrise during last year’s Mayaro Coconut Run. Runners this weekend will be treated to not just the sand and sea, but also the glory of nature herself with this weekend’s beach races. Image: Bafasports Media
