Latchan and Gangaram take top honours as we closed off a busy January
We were making waves in the north all January, but we didn’t forget about the south. Nadeem Latchan and Nalini Gangaram seized the opportunity as well to shine in the 5.5km course as the month wrapped up at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy for the UI Sports Club Community Pop-Up on Friday.
Short and Sweet
It was fitting in a way that January wrapped up with a course like this. Runners came out in their numbers for the 5.30pm start and basically made a beeline for Gasparillo Bypass Road, before swinging around to retrace their steps back up BCLA Access Road to where the race started.
In all, it wasn’t quite a 5K, as an extra 500 metres was in the mix, but the runners didn’t seem to mind one bit.

On the Asphalt
And Latchan didn’t mind at all, most certainly. The 21-year-old whizzed past the gantry in 22:18.5, with Keron Wilson over a minute later settling for second clocking 23:55.5, while Mikkel Acquart came in third in 24:06.8.
Gangaram goes one better!
Over in the women’s finishers Nalini Gangaram, who finished third in last week’s Energy Run 5k, improved her performance just two days later moving to the top of the podium with her improved time 27:10.1, which was over a minute faster than her third place time.
Torrie Williams followed up roughly half a minute later with her 27:46.8 time, while Asia Ramdeen finished in third with a 34:07.1 clocking.
We will own the night: Midnight Marathon to continue soon!
There is more to come on the Bafasports calendar in March as their Midnight Series is also off and running, and resumes further north with the Trinidad and Tobago Midnight 10K Ariapita, as a part of the Bafasports initiative for making running fun again, and to promote health and wellness in an holistic effort.
