The Pink Reign is in! The concluded campaign, which seeks to promote women and girls in sport, hit the Queen’s Park Savannah in August, with the successful hosting of the GirlsRunTT Nature’s Rush 6K.
The GirlsRunTT is one of several initiatives forming part of the Pink Reign campaign, a partnership between us, and the Ministry of Sports. This is the sixth year the ministry has been involved, spanning events from Cedros to Tobago, and the Pink Reign, the brainchild born of our Million Mile Challenge.
We have been redefining the way people think about athletics with a focus on grassroots events, where people from all walks of life can participate. And speaking of grass, the QPS was the latest location where their 6k, one of our shorter races we can assure you, featured an all-female cast as another step toward getting more women and girls involved in running.
The event got under way from opposite Stollmeyer’s Castle, and when the finish line tape was broken in the girls 8-12 category, Simaya Tidd crossed the line in the 1k race clocking 4:34.2. And among the adults, Charis Mckie stopped the clock at 30:13.4, to bag gold in the 6k event.
We’ve been at the heart of these initiatives since 2018, and brought not only a unique twist to distance running competitions, but also an angle that promotes health and wellness for the average person, not just elite athletes.
When the average person thinks about athletics, thoughts of clay, starting blocks, hurdles and lycra come to mind. Or maybe the running sneakers, bibs and hydration stations of the more popular road races. We moinlight in the latter for sure, but with a different twist.
As recently as the Independence weekend, we switched it up from the savannah turf to the sands of Mayaro, as for the Mayaro Coconut Beach Run 1k, 5k and 10k events, over two days between Radix Beach Resort and Queen’s Beach resort. And of course, most people have not forgotten the sensation of our midnight races successfully hosted since the start of the year.
“By athletes, for athletes”, is the name of the game, but the Million Mile Challenge, where the average person can upload their miles to the website with the long-term goal to reach one million miles, is where their heart really is; promoting fitness through holistic and fun activities for anyone interested in engaging in a positive outlet to de-stress from the day-to-day hustle.
Check us out here for more updates as we continue to hit the pavement until the end of the year, and for more information about the Million Mile Challenge!
