Holiday Run

The country was at rest on Republic Day, but there were fireworks around the Queen’s Park Savannah for sure for our Xtra Foods Cares 5K 2026.

Tafari Waldron was at it again bringing another race home, while Nyla Kerr topped the female charts in our most recent foray on the road.

Xtra Foods on the Money...

The race brought runners, walkers and families together on the holiday for a celebration of health, wellness and community spirit.

The event is designed to welcome participants of all ages and abilities, offering an enjoyable morning of activity while encouraging healthier lifestyles and community engagement.

Participants can look forward to a finisher’s medal, race photography and hydration stations along the course.

Beyond the race itself, the event featured cash prizes and age-group awards, giving competitive runners an added incentive to test themselves on the 5K course.

Product sampling and giveaways added to the family-friendly atmosphere, which made the event 5K a celebration that extends beyond the finish line.

From Serpentine to the QPS

And back. The race had runners streaming out from St Clair onto the savannah road where after a lap of the iconic landmark, they headed back down Hayes Street and Serpentine road back to where it all started.

Waldron and Kerr Flatten the Field

Waldron continued his Bafasports hot streak, powering to victory in the Xtra Foods Cares 5K in 15 minutes, 20.5 seconds.

The former Carifta double-gold winner held off a strong challenge from Darius Harding, who crossed the line just 8.4 seconds behind the winner in 15:28.9.

Donnell Francis completed the men’s podium in 16:26.8, finishing more than a minute behind Waldron but comfortably clear of the remaining field.

Nyla Kerr claimed the women’s title in convincing fashion, stopping the clock at 18:14.4. Kerr finished 38.2 seconds ahead of Alexia John, who took second in 18:52.6, while April Francis secured third place in 20:20.5.

The results produced a competitive front end in both races, with Waldron and Kerr setting the pace on a Republic Day afternoon that combined road racing with the wider celebration of health, wellness and community.

Up next…

The Million Mile campaign is in full swing as runners across the country log their miles virtually, and we still have some good-old pounding of the asphalt coming up around the corner with the 2026 Palo Seco Credit Union 5K set for October 4, as well as the Run D Coast 2026 5K set for the day before.

The year is winding down slowly but surely, but the pace on the roads is still blistering.
