Bafasports back again!
We were back at it again on Carnival Thursday at the Larry Gomes Stadium when our Community Pop-Up swung by the east on the eve of the big celebration.
Sand to the beach? We brought the gift of running to a well-known running hub
The Larry Gomes Stadium, built for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2001, and again featured on the world stage nine years later in 2010 for the U-17 women’s edition, has long been a fixture for Malabar residents.
It’s not uncommon to see a mass of people late in the afternoon clocking in their kilos on the walkway surrounding the block that includes the Lennox Yearwood Expressway – a dual carriageway that has been pipeline into Malabar for decades, Malabar Road, Nutones Boulevard, and TBD Road.
Suffice it to say we at Bafasports were right at home, and our latest Community Pop-Up brought runners out in droves vying for precious metal, as well as another opportunity to build up a nice sweat.

To the action on the asphalt
The route was simple enough too, as all it required was three laps around the entire block either running or walking, and then reporting back to the parking lot where the action started.
For the first two laps Kaliph Woods and Ayo Ammon, two runners from the elite division, formed their own two-man coaltion at the head of the pack. By the time Woods came in the final straight for the last time, it was clear that he had switched gears in between laps to pull away from Ammon.
Woods finished in 19:13.3, while Ammon was in second 19:56.3, with Marcus St Rose in third clocking 23:27.7.
Age is indeed just a number!
Among the ladies, Sheriffa Ward despite finishing in second was quite the sensation as her performance belied her age. The 61-year-old looked like she could’ve done more as she stopped the clock at 32:21.6.
Kemi Liverpool was home first though, finishing in 26:17.4, while Tiyee Timothy rounded the ladies podium in third, with 32:50.4.
Get ready for more in March
This race, as well as the Love Conquers Valentine’s Day Pop-Up on Saturday, were the last two before Bafasports Foundation took a short break before the Midnight Series resumes on March 8, with the T&T Midnight 10K Ariapita run.
The Midnight Series, as well as the Million Mile Campaign is part of Bafasports’ goal to empower communities, promote wellness, and inspire positive change, one stride at a time.
