Welcome to the Midnight Series!
It’s safe to say that our Midnight Series is well underway after we pulled out two successful back-to-back events on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning at the Queen’s Park Savannah.
During the day, there were flags and rags, Moko Jumbies, and everything a Carnival aficionado could ask for at the Grand Stand during the NCC Carnival 1K and 5K, but if a fan of road races had stuck around long enough they’d have been treated to a real double feature.
Just about eight hours later, a fresh batch of runners were again lining up at the QPS for the Midnight 10K pop-up, where they look to the streets for a three-lap jaunt around its perimeter.
If you’re in the know, by now you’ve realised that time and place never hold us back. So, last year our midnight runs created quite the sensation on social media, and we’re picking up where that left off for sure.
Under the Savannah Lights
Runners were treated to an assortment of medal designs this time around as precious metal from the Dragon Eye, Lupus Awareness Virtual, Love Conquers, and Animal Rescue races were distributed to the enthusiasts who came out.
The course was not as cluttered as the festivity-driven Carnival 1K and 5K event held hours earlier, which allowed runners to go the distance in the cool of the night. The 10.8K route hugged the perimeter of the QPS, taking them just north of three laps.
Akil Ragbir seized the opportunity, after a 47-minute run saw him stream past the finish in first.
His 47:08.4 return was good enough to top the entire field, while over a minute later at 48:51.6, Joel Aming whizzed past for second, with Renoki Abbott 52:20.6 rounded things up in third.
The real MVP performance however, came from Zara Suite-Stewart, whose 51:10.7 clocking was not only just good enough for first among the ladies, but was also the third-highest time overall in the course.

The event exemplified the importance of community effort; including the business community. Thanks to: Subway, Dasani, Good N’ Natural, Phoenix Dental, Optometrists Today, Eve Pantry T&T, Powerade, Starbucks, Trinebox, Dasani, Caribbean Airlines, and TRIBE Carnival, Bafasports executed another successful event within an eight-hour span.
There’s More to Come on the Horizon
The Midnight Series is off and running, and there is more to come in March when the series picks back up further west with the Trinidad and Tobago Midnight 10K Ariapita, as a part of the Bafasports initiative for making running fun again, and to promote health and wellness in an holistic effort.
