Pawprints & Podium Places: A 5K for the Four-Legged Crew

The spirit of heroism took centre stage on Saturday November 15, as runners, walkers, and animal lovers gathered at the Queen’s Park Savannah for Project I’mPossible: Race to Rescue 5K.

The event, guided by the theme “Anybody could be a hero,” held in front of the historic Stollmeyer’s Castle, went about creating a history of its own through a purpose-driven cross country race.

Our latest big project was also an initiative of Project I’mPossible, and the race was more than another addition to the growing event catalogue, as it was a lifeline for animals in need.

Participants took to the course not only to clock in the kilometres, but to support ongoing rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming efforts for vulnerable four-legged companions.

Project I’mPossible is a non-profit organisation that provides assistance to persons and animals in need, including feeding street animals, animal welfare, and to assist injured animals through collaboration with local vets.

The 5K route offered a brisk, cross-country-style adventure through the inner trails of the Savannah, carrying runners as far as the Cascade roundabout, before they powered toward a scenic finish opposite Mille Fleurs along the Magnificent Seven.

At the finish line, 18-year-old Darius Harding finished in 17:36.9. Keron Ali followed in second place with 18:29.2, while Isaiah Alder secured third in 19:13.4.

With an ongoing partnership with Subway, Starbucks, Powerade, Regal, Dasani, Guiltless Yoghurt, True Bread, Unipro, Xtra Foods, JTA Supermarkets, and Trinebox, we hope to finish strong for 2025!

The Race to Rescue 5K comes on the heels of our record-breaking Fatima College 80th Anniversary 5K, and signals even more high-energy community events ahead.

Next on the horizon will be the Starbucks Coffee Run: Defeat the Dark 5K, the Tunapauna 5k on Saturday 22, along with the ongoing Million Mile Challenge, which sees runners nationwide contributing mileage toward an ambitious one-million-mile goal.

With each event, our mission to empowering communities, promote wellness, and drive meaningful change one stride at a time, becomes more of a reality.
